How can I create a scatter plot on the TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus family of graphing calculators?

The following example will demonstrate how to enter statistical data and graph a scatter plot.

Data for this example:

L1: {7,2,4,2,5}
L2: {8,4,6,2,7}



To input data into the Stat List Editor:

1) Press [STAT] then [1] to select 1:Edit and access the Stat List Editor
2) Press 7 [ENTER] 2 [ENTER] 4 [ENTER] 2 [ENTER] 5 [ENTER] to enter the data in the L1 list
3) Press [→] to move to the L2 list and then press 8 [ENTER] 4 [ENTER] 6 [ENTER] 2 [ENTER] 7 [ENTER] to enter the data in the L2 list
4) Press [2nd] [QUIT] to quit and return to the home screen.

Graph the scatter plot:

1) Press [2nd] then [Y=] to access the STAT PLOT editor.
2) Press [1] to edit Plot1.
3) Press [ENTER] to turn ON Plot1.
4) Press [↓] then [ENTER] to select the scatter plot graph type.
5) Press [↓] then [2ND] then [1] to set Xlist equal to L1
6) Press [↓] then [2ND] then [2] to set Ylist equal to L2



Please Note (TI-84 Plus CE and TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition ONLY): On the Stat Plot screen, you also have the option to change the color of the plot by highlighting the color and pressing [→] or [←] until the desired color appears on the screen.

7) Press [GRAPH] to display the scatter plot



8) To get a better view of the graph, press [ZOOM] [9] to select ZoomStat
